What they built

HelpKit turns Notion pages into a professional, branded, searchable help center or documentation site. You write in Notion, which most teams already use, and HelpKit publishes a fast customer-facing knowledge base on your own domain. Customers range from small startups to universities and larger companies.

Dominik Sobe, a self-taught developer from Villach, Austria, built it in 2021 after needing a better help center for one of his own apps. The insight was to use Notion's editor as the backbone instead of asking people to learn yet another CMS.

How they did it

He is a solo founder, fully bootstrapped, with no outside investment. Before tech he was a sponsored street snowboarder, then studied business and taught himself to code by shipping products. The HelpKit MVP started at a hackathon.

Distribution came from engineering as marketing and old-fashioned hustle. He built a free Notion Table Generator that spread through Notion communities and pulled people toward HelpKit. He sent hundreds of personal emails, ran demo calls, and onboarded early customers by hand. He also shared his revenue publicly on Twitter to build trust, then stopped disclosing exact numbers once he passed $10K in monthly recurring revenue because copycats were cloning his landing page.

“HelpKit reached a new MRR milestone today but that's not what I'm actually celebrating... 🚀 Our churn has always been quite good but the trajectory is even better: Sub 2% now 💪 The 12m monthly churn average sits around 2.5% Happy customers → sticky customers → happy me!”

The numbers

  • Grew from $1,000 MRR after about five months, to $3,000 when he went full-time, to $4,500 by September 2022. source
  • Passed $10,000 in monthly recurring revenue with 400+ customers, his last publicly confirmed figure before he stopped sharing exact numbers. source
  • As of August 2025 he reported sub-2% monthly churn, with a 12-month average near 2.5%. source

HelpKit is a clean example of the wrapper play done right: take a tool people already live in, remove one specific pain, and keep customers so long that churn does the compounding for you.
