What they built

Talknotes is an AI voice notes app. You talk, it transcribes and cleans up your rambling into structured, usable notes. Nico Jeannen, a French solo founder who had recently taught himself to code, built the first version in about a week after getting frustrated with the transcription in Google Docs. It launched in August, won Product of the Day on Product Hunt, and grew on a mix of directory listings, paid ads and posting in public.

How they did it

Nico picked an idea he could grow with paid ads, shipped a minimum version fast, and used his laptop as the server until there was revenue, so he could spend his time talking to users instead of setting up infrastructure. He is blunt about the hard parts too: subscriptions mean you fight acquisition, activation and churn all at once, which is why he now tells beginners to start with one-time payments. That honesty about the grind is part of why people follow his numbers.

The numbers

Nico took Talknotes from zero to $7,000 MRR in 11 months, then sold it on Acquire.com for $200,000 (source). Starter Story covered the build while it was still live, documenting the climb from a one-week MVP to $5,000 MRR (source). He later sold a second product, MakeLogo, for $65,000, taking his two exits past a quarter of a million dollars. These are founder-reported figures, so treat them as claimed.

What to take from it: a small, clean AI app does not have to become a giant to change your life. A tool at $7K MRR, built solo in a week and grown for under a year, sold for the price of a house deposit. Building to sell is a real, repeatable path, not a consolation prize.
