DudeRanch.com
by Peter Askew
Peter Askew runs DudeRanch.com, a WordPress directory doing $50,575 trailing-twelve-month revenue (about $4,215 a month) with near-zero costs, as he disclosed on X in August 2025.

What they built
DudeRanch.com is a directory of American dude ranches. Vacationers looking for a horseback riding holiday find a ranch, ranchers pay a flat annual fee to be listed, and Peter Askew (@searchbound) collects the invoices. It is not a startup, not a SaaS dashboard, and not an app. It is one man buying a decades-old domain name and quietly running the marketplace behind it. Askew is known for this pattern: he buys aged domains that already describe a real market, then builds the small business the name implies. DudeRanch.com is his most public example.
How they did it
There is almost no technology story here, and that is the point. The site runs on WordPress. The only recurring costs are domain renewal and hosting. Askew invoices ranchers by hand once a year. Most advertisers have stayed with him for over a decade, and he admits he has done a poor job even reaching out to new ranches, which means the growth levers (rate increases, outbound sales, newsletter ads) are still mostly untouched. His revenue is direct from customers, so there is no ad network or platform taking a cut.
In August 2025 he openly floated selling the business and posted the numbers to back the ask.
“TTM is currently $50,575. Directory/marketplace biz model. Only expenses are domain renewal and hosting. All revenue is direct from dude ranchers. Traffic up 30%”
View on XThe numbers
- $50,575 in trailing-twelve-month revenue, roughly $4,215 a month, disclosed publicly on X with a $225,000 asking price if sold. source
- Base listing fee around $575 a year, with long-term advertisers who have stayed 10-plus years and no rate hike in a decade.
- Traffic up 30% year over year, which Askew attributes partly to AI search sending people to niche directories.
The lesson for a builder is that you do not need to invent a product. A precise domain, a real market, and a WordPress install can be a durable business with margins most software founders would envy.
